THE UNRESOLVED issue
The Unresolved Issue is about wanting to change something but not being able to do it… and how maybe there's a gene for that.
The whole thing started when my best friend, Mary-E decided to do sort of an intervention thing to get me to break up with my boyfriend, Bill. Apparently she'd was chewing tinfoil daily over the way he was treating me so she got everybody to trap me in a room and yell at me about it.
So after this huge fight I went to this gig for Bill's band, and I caught him with this other girl which, since I'd just dumped my best friend, was like someone swinging a cactus in my face. But the thing is… even though I could see that Bill had the heart of a weasel, I still couldn't leave him.
When I finally got home that night I got an earful from my mom who was on the patio throwing back wine spritzers all about how my brother was an accident and how she'd ruined her life by letting a man - my dad - lead her.
When she said that I realized how I'd let Bill lead me, and I had to wonder why both me and my mom let ourselves do that. And I'm still wondering. And that's what The Unresolved Issue is all about.
